An Orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle reconstruction is a physician who has completed training in Orthopaedic Surgery, and further subspecialized training in foot and ankle surgery. They can perform surgery of the lower extremity.

A Podiatrist is not a physician, but has completed clinical and surgical training in foot disorders. They can perform soft tissue surgery of the foot, and bone surgery of the forefoot.

A Chiropodist is not a physician, but has completed clinical training in foot disorders. They can only perform soft tissue surgery.
